SocialScope Review

February 21, 2011 in Blog, by / 0 Comments

SocialScope is a multi social network mobile client for Blackberry and other smart phones. SocialScope unlike other mobile Twitter clients, allows the user to integrate all their most popular social networks into one application (Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Flickr). Up until last week when Twitter decided to suspend UberTwitter and Twitdroid’s accounts, SocialScope was in private beta.

People who wanted to use what we think is the best Social Media mobile client for Blackberry, SocialScope, had to apply via their website www.getsocialscope.com and wait weeks and even months in most cases to get access to use of the application. This decision by Ubiquitous Systems to give download access to users after requesting an invite code generated much attention and curiosity around the then Twitter only application.

On the 18th of February, 2011, Twitter suspended UberMedia’s UberTwitter and twidroyd, from accessing Twitter. This handicapped users from interacting with Twitter through the above stated applications. The internet erupted in disapproval and shock at the what seems to be overnight decision on Twitter’s part. However, with the “death” of UberTwitter because of, as according to Twitter, violation of there terms of use, came the rise in popularity of alternatives such as Twitter for Blackberry and SocialScope.

Observing the conversations of Twitter, we realise that not much people appreciate and realise the array of features SocialScope offers. That led us to this review. See below some of the features that made techies do just about anything to get a SocialScope invite, back when it was “exclusive”:

  • Twitter Integration: status updates, private messages, retweets (both styles), insert location (or not), etc.
  • Facebook Integration: full fledge Facebook experience inside SocialScope. This means, there’s no need for a separate Facebook application.
  • Inbox Integration: Powerful inbox integration allows you to select exactly which messages appear in your BlackBerry inbox.
  • Inline Picture Viewing: You can view pictures in your timeline without having to click and be redirected to another website to see the picture.
  • Mute: You can hide a particular user’s tweets, application updates(Mafia Wars!), or even a particular topic/keyword.
  • Reduced Battery Usage: Battery usage is one thing that Ubiquitous Systems has really focused on recently. SocialScope uses battery life conservatively.
  • Twitter Lists: Manage your Twitter lists straight from a tab just like you would on Web, TweetDeck or your other favourite desktop clients.
  • Tabs: Multiple tab browsing/switching with the slide of your trackpad left or right, shows the activities of the various user created tabs.
  • Multiple Twitter Accounts: You can use two Twitter accounts using this one application. Think about updating separate Twitter accounts and your Facebook status with one click.

There are many more features that SocialScope offer, one just needs to take time to discover them all. If you have any questions regarding Twitter, Facebook, SocialScope or any other social media related query, feel free to get instant feedback from us via our Twitter account: @HybridTechJa
